I attended tonight’s meeting of the Tennessee State Board of Fair Commissioners (aka the Fair Board). My thoughts on the meeting can be summed up thusly:
2008 was the last season ever of weekly racing at the fairgrounds
I say this for a few reasons. Commissioner Varney’s proposal pretty much means that the Board is washing their [...]

Today was supposed to be the day that supporters of same sex “marriage” took a day off work by calling in “gay.”
It’s supposed to show how much of an impact gay folks have on our economy…. or something.
If I’m an employer and someone calls in “gay,” I’m not sure what I’d do. At the very [...]

John Stuart Mill was right when talking about the tyranny that can happen in democracies.
In his “On Liberty” he states “Society can and does execute its own mandates; and if it issues wrong mandates instead of right, or any mandates at all in things with which it ought not to meddle, it practices a social [...]

It’s been said before that the poor and homeless in America have a better standard of living than the poor and homeless in other countries. How you can be poor and still have two or three TVs, cell phones, and computers beats me.
Now the homeless (who used to be called bums in another era) are [...]

The Vatican has “forgiven” John Lennon for a remark he made about the Beatles being more popular than Jesus.
What?
That makes no sense. There’s nothing to forgive. He wasn’t bragging, just making an observation. If you think about it, it was an observation that condemned organized religion. In other words “Why are we more popular than [...]

I realize that voting is a right. But as with all rights, there are responsibilities. If you choose to stay uninformed about the candidates before an election and then still exercise your right to vote, then you’re a very irresponsible person.
It turns out that Obama’s voters were some of the most irresponsible voters.
Zogby released the [...]

Watch this if you need a reminder of what it means to be a conservative.
This is just about as timely today as it was 40 odd years ago. It’s amazing that liberals have used the same playbook all these years.
My favorite quote: “The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just [...]

No matter the outcome, today’s election will make history. Either we’ll have the first (mostly) black president, or the first (all) woman vice president.
I’m actually writing this Monday night, but thanks to the magic of Wordpress’s scheduled publishing feature, I’m going to publish it on Tuesday morning. Tuesday night, I’ve got better things to do [...]

If Barack H Obama does indeed become the president elect on November 4, then I don’t want to ever hear the word racism again.
Obama’s supporters are constantly claiming that if he’s not elected, it’ll be because of racism. Therefore, if he is elected, to me, that’ll prove that racism wasn’t a factor.
If, by some miracle, [...]

A few years ago here in Tennessee, one of the state representatives (who’s now a US Congressman) finally got a lottery passed (they actually had to amend the State Constitution to do it). The idea was to give scholarships to needy kids so they can go to college.
Since then, college costs have gone through the [...]
