Die Like A Pirate Day

Happy Easter. And the fact that Captain Richard Phillips was freed today (apparently by Navy action) makes it an even better day.
But the cynic in me has a prediction: the surviving pirate will be brought to New York to face trial. He’ll be represented (pro bono) by a big liberal defense attorney who’ll claim either that he wasn’t the ringleader and was only following orders, or that he’s a victim of the environment of Somalia and it’s not his fault. Either way, I doubt the pirate will (if convicted) have to spend much time in jail. I don’t foresee a big sentence. And from what I understand, he’ll be living better off in a US jail than his comrades live in Somalia.
Here’s another prediction: Obama will be all over this, taking credit for “ordering” the action that rescued Captain Phillips. The leftists will use this as an example of how tough Obama is. Never mind the fact that it took four days and that Obama never said a thing about the incident when it happened.
This really doesn’t prove anything about Obama other than what the military can do when they’re unfettered. If Obama really wanted to show us how great a military leader he is, he’d order an airstrike or 10 on Somalia and invade the country to get rid of those low lifes.
But he won’t. I guess he’ll figure it’s better to negotiate with thugs and terrorists.
