Ctrl-Alt-Del for America

Back in the “old days” of personal computers, if it hung up, you could press the Ctrl, Alt, and Del keys at the same time and it’d reboot your computer. It was the next to last resort when your computer stopped responding (the last resort being turn it off).
I think we need to reboot the United States.
Much like a piece of software that’s been upgraded and upgraded and upgraded that eventually becomes “bloatware”, the US has, over the last 200 years, enacted laws and regulations that just need to be done away with.
I’m not talking about overthrowing the government. I’m talking about returning to where the US Constitution is the main document that outlines what the Federal government can and can’t do.
The farther we get away from the Constitution, the less free we become. We now have the government handing out money to people and companies who don’t know how to manage that money. And because of that, the government is telling those people and companies exactly how they can spend that money (e.g. if you’re the CEO of one of those companies, you can’t make more than $500,o00 per year). In an ideal world, that CEO who oversaw the downfall of his company would be booted from his job and a competent one put in his place. If he’s going to rescue the company, he might want to have a pretty good payday. After all, if he rescues the company and saves all those jobs, wouldn’t it be worth it?
But it seems we’re in an era where common sense has gone by the wayside. We force banks to lend money to people who can’t afford the house they’re buying, and then we’re surprised when those people can’t make the payments.
The next Congress should abolish all Federal laws the first thing they do when they get into office. Then if any are absolutely needed, they can re-write them (in human readable form) and re-enact them.
Ah well, I can dream can’t I?
