I keep hearing the phrase “Free at last, free at last” being quoted this morning on the news, words spoken by Martin Luther King in his I Have A Dream speech. As I watch the Obama inauguration frenzy going on in Washington today, two things occur to me. One is that a lot of African-Americans are just now figuring out that they ARE free. That happened in 1863, but if you don’t think you’re free, you probably aren’t. That’s a mind game you’re playing with yourself. The second thing that occurs to me is that slavery is still alive and well – it’s just moved off the plantations and into the corporations and factories. Now, it enslaves us all, not just people of any particular race. Grow up, America!
