Ignorance Is Bliss (For The Anti-English Crowd)

Congratulations to the anti-English folks. They managed to sucker convince enough people that making English the official language of Metro Council was a bad idea to win the referendum yesterday.
Amendment 1 failed by a margin of 14% (or so), while strangely enough, Amendment 2 failed by 26% (or so).
While there might be a semi-legitimate argument to vote against Amendment 1, there was no such argument to vote against Amendment 2. Amendment 2 would have made it easier to get a charter amendment on the ballot and would probably have prevented more of these costly special elections the anti-English crowd kept talking about. It would also have prevented Metro Council from overturning the will of the people for a certain time period.
The anti-English people did a great job of confusing the voters with the two issues.
Now, I’d like to petition the Metro Council to hold its next meeting in Japanese… or maybe Spanish would be more appropriate. After all, that’s apparently the will of the voters.
