Socialism Now, or Socialism Later?

Several months ago, the main issue for the upcoming election was the war in Iraq. It came down to either you were for victory or you were for defeat.
Now, today, everyone’s worried about the economy.
It seems that the problem with Americans is their relatively short attention span when it comes to issues. Whatever the mainstream media is touting as the current crisis is what the politicians have to tailor their message to.
I guess, for better or for worse, the current economic situation is what will drive voters this year. Never mind the fact that our nation’s security should be the number one criteria people use. They see that they can only afford to have three TV’s in the house, and think of themselves as poor, so the guy pimping hope and change must be the One to vote for.
What would be funny if it weren’t so serious is that the fellow pimping hope and change is actually playing on the fears and prejudices of the voters. The candidate with all the rich Hollywood friends is looking out for the little guy, while the war hero is only interested in helping his fat cat friends in big business. And, isn’t big business to blame for this economic mess we’re in?
What’s ironic here is that the war hero, among others in the Republican party, tried to sound a warning several years ago about the disastrous government programs that led to this mess. Meanwhile the One was in Chicago playing dirty politics by getting his opposition removed from the ballot. Some candidate for change, huh?
Anyway, the voters have a choice to make again this year. The choices are socialism sooner or socialism later. While I’m not happy with either candidate, I will chose the one that indicates that his path to socialism will be slower than the other One.
