Shut Up and Entertain

I heard someone the other day complain about how the Dixie Chicks were treated by country music. I thought to myself “they’re a good example of an act that takes its audience for granted.” They thought they could say anything they wanted to about this country and the President and get away with it. They found out that words have consequences.
I don’t know why entertainers (whether they be singers, actors, writers, or whatever) feel like their fans want to know what their political views are. Their job is to entertain us, not lecture us. We pay them money for a few minutes, hours, or even days of enjoyment, and that’s all we want.
Unfortunately, not many entertainers are good enough to rise above their stupidity. How am I ever going to be able to watch Bull Durham again? The answer is, I can’t. Sarandon and Robbins just aren’t good enough actors to make me forget how stupid they are in real life.
Jack Nicholson is though, at least for now. I can’t think of any others off the top of my head.
Kudos to those entertainers who keep their political views to themselves.
